Purpose & Design

The Soup Sock is a fine-mesh, 100% cotton tube designed to hold meat, bones, and vegetables while they simmer. By containing the "mirepoix" (the aromatic vegetables) and protein, you can easily remove the solids once their flavor has been extracted, leaving behind a clean, professional-grade broth.

Specifications

  • Quantity: Sold as a Set of 3 (S/3).

  • Material: Made from 100% Natural Cotton, which is unbleached and food-safe.

  • Size: Each sock typically measures approximately 24 inches long, but they are highly elastic and can stretch to accommodate large soup bones or a whole chicken.

How to Use

  1. Fill: Place your herbs, bones, and chopped vegetables inside the sock.

  2. Tie: Tie a simple knot at the top of the sock to secure the contents.

  3. Simmer: Drop the bag into your pot of water or base liquid.

  4. Remove: Once the soup is done, simply lift the sock out. The solids stay inside for easy disposal (or composting), and your soup stays clear.

Key Benefits

  • Clarity: Prevents small bits of herbs, bone fragments, or "fatty foam" from clouding your liquid.

  • Efficiency: Eliminates the need for multiple stovetop transfers or messy straining through cheesecloth.

  • Versatility: Beyond soup, they are excellent for steeping large batches of tea, mulling spices for cider, or boiling shellfish.

Care

While these are technically disposable for convenience (especially after cooking with greasy meats), they are sturdy enough to be hand-washed and reused if used only for vegetables or herbs. However, most chefs prefer the "one-and-done" convenience of tossing the bag after a long simmer.
